The Other Side of the Door
Book Description
The Other Side of the Door is a collection of short stories with a twist in the tale. The stories take you on a journey of discovery, and although they do appear to offer hints as to the outcome, readers are kept guessing right up to the end. That is when you are hit with a surprise that is rarely anything you could imagine. The narratives range from present day to past times and the stories involve places, crimes, speculative fiction and many more, interesting and varied subjects. They all have one thing in common; a twist at the end that is not what readers would expect. What lies in wait on the other side of the door, only the author knows – for now. Available as eBook and Paperback Editorial Review Reviewed by Lee Ashford for Readers' Favorite “The Other Side of the Door by Jill Vance is a curious collection of seventeen diverse and absorbing short stories. One thing this collection makes obvious is that Jill Vance has a far-reaching imagination, and the ability to create riveting tales. I was so engrossed in these stories that I was surprised when I realized I was on the final page. I think what had me so riveted was that the great diversity of stories exposed me to a number of genres I wouldn't ordinarily read. I was pleasantly surprised to discover I stayed fully involved in each tale. Having said that, I am confident in predicting that anyone who reads this book will find stories to enjoy.” Readers Comments “I must say that I have enjoyed these short stories immensely. The author was very on spot with these stories and even though they were short they were very fun and interesting. I loved that she wrote so concise while giving me a complete story at the same time. The characters were all well developed and the plots were flawless. The best part is that she writes these stories so well that you can't help but to get lost in them and as one comes to an end you are just as excited to get started on the next one. Believe me, this is a must read and I look forward to more books and stories from this author. Believe me, this is a must read and I look forward to more books and stories from this author.” Phoebe Brown “The book is a collection of seventeen short stories, with their own unique twists of playfulness, yes one or two are very short but this is an art in itself, to tell such a good story in so few words. The stories just flow and you find yourself racing along almost unable to put the book down…” Sophie Dark Between Shadows
Book Description
Dark Between Shadows is a collection of short stories, united only by having a twist in the tale. The plots range from speculative fiction to real crime with a smidgen of humour added. The length of the tales varies too, from short and sweet to quite lengthy, so there is reading material to suit all tastes and situations. Surprise occurrences leap from the darkness to astound readers with the ending they least expect. Dark Between Shadows takes you down a winding path of alternating light and shade. Follow this path to the end; turn every corner, inspect each area, but beware. Hiding in the Dark Between Shadows are all manner of unexpected things. Things waiting to shock, astonish and surprise, ready to leap out and startle… you! This is just published so the paperback is not yet out, but will be coming soon. Editorial Review by Ayrial King for Readers' Favorite Jill Vance startles and tantalizes the reader with her second collection of twisted short stories called Dark Between Shadows. The plots of the stories are just as varied as their lengths, and as she says “united only by having a twist in the tale.” With stories ranging from unexpectedly hilarious like “Evasive Answers” to twistedly mad like “Revenge is a Bunch of Flowers,” Vance has a nice selection of stories to please any palate. The story I am sure many will love is “Missing Days” because it has a 007-esque feel to it that is complete and adventurous. The stories will shock you, make you scratch your head, and go through many emotions at once while reading and many more at the end. Many of Vance's stories shocked me with the unexpected twist, while some had me laughing out loud. The stories “Revenge is a Bunch of Flowers,” “Theater Tickets,” and “Courtroom Trick” shocked me the most because I felt they had twists within twists that took me on a roller coaster ride and refused to let me go until I was dizzyingly sick. I was all for the sister’s “Revenge” against those who wronged her until the very frantic end. The morbid undercurrent of “Theater Tickets” felt vaguely familiar to me, though I did not expect the ending; it was so maddening it was genius. “Courtroom Trick” was every defense attorney’s worst nightmare – an impossible case to turn in his or her favor but he manages to do just that only to learn the very ugly truth after it is too late to do anything about it. “Evasive Answers” was quite funny and possibly what every person has felt at some point, and “Writing on the Sand” was something many aspiring authors would love to happen to them, if only once in their dreams. This is a book I can give to anyone in my family and know he or she will enjoy it. Readers comments “Jill Vance's "Dark Between Shadows" is a collection of short stories with intriguing twists and turns. None of the stories ended how I thought they would, even though I was expecting a twist at the end. I absolutely loved it.” Kerah13 “Short stories are always my favorite way to read fiction and Dark Between Shadows is a perfect collection of them. They definitely are very well written and the plot twists in each are very captivating. These are now some of my favorite stories and I highly recommend this book to anyone that's a fan of these kind of stories.” Dylan Ochenkowski Wrapped With Thorns
